As we prepare the workforce of tomorrow, we believe it is only through working collaboratively that we can ensure continued success for young people in Leicestershire. At the core of our beliefs is the perfect balance of holistic development and academic achievement. It is this focus on both elements of our students’ development that we believe leads to their successes in further education and the workplace.
Our young people live in a complex and ever changing world: they will be offered opportunities and face new and yet to be defined challenges of the 21st Century. Our stakeholder partners play a key role in preparing our young people for these challenges. Whether this be through offering placements, mock interviews or supporting celebration events, their presence has allowed our young people to become curious, develop key skills and take the demands of the workplace in their stride.
You can read more about some of our partnerships below and the impact they have had on our young people.
In the Lionheart Academies Trust, we have an ongoing drive to provide young people with opportunities to explore future career paths and practice key employability skills. In keeping with this drive, we partnered with a range of renowned local organisations to host a Trust-wide careers event for our students in the North of Leicestershire.
At the event, students took part in a range of discussion panels, hearing from local businesses such as Next PLC, XMA and Cross Productions, and universities including De Montfort University, University of Leicester and University of Loughborough. An array of Leicestershire-based organisations including LEBC, East Midlands Airport, LOROS, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service also had the opportunity to inspire students on future pathways in our Careers Fair. Significantly, this event exposed our students to careers they may not have previously considered.
“It was a really great event to get involved in, an opportunity to influence 450 year 10 students who attend 3 of the many schools local to Head Office. Thank you for hosting Lionheart Academies Trust, we hope to work with you again soon!” – Laura Taylor, Next PLC
3G Pitch Installations
In 2018, the Playing Pitch Strategy for Oadby and Wigston Borough Council confirmed a shortfall of artificial training facilities for football within the Borough. Without the availability of resilient artificial pitches, young people of the wider Oadby and Wigston communities were missing out on vital fitness training, participation and development of key holistic and social skills.
After a period of consultation with the local community, the Football Foundation - through the Premier League and FA Facilities Fund - Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, Gartree School and Oadby Owls Football Club decided to jointly fund the installation of a full size 3G football pitch to the rear of Beauchamp College. This installation will respond to the demands of the local area and provide our young people with the opportunity for holistic development, through greater engagement with team activity.
In 2020, the Lionheart Academies Trust hope to install a further 3G pitch to the rear of the Cedars Academy in Birstall. This installation will support the holistic development of young people in the North of Leicestershire.
We recognise that the demands of the workplace require more of young people than just high grades; they require workers who go above and beyond in their efforts to succeed. Annually, we partner with renowned Leicestershire businesses such as Cross Productions, Leicester Racecourse XMA, Bakers Waste and Schoolwear Solutions to celebrate hard-working and passionate students who do exactly that.
Our celebration evenings recognise the incredible achievements of young people across our 6 secondary schools and 2 sixth forms, giving awards to those who achieve great 'Progress' and 'Effort' in each subject area. Attended by representatives from over 17 Leicestershire businesses and organisations, the events also provide an opportunity to meet future employers and explore careers not previously considered.
