Celebrating Volunteers Who Inspire Change

As Volunteers’ Week continues, we’re shining a light on the often-unseen individuals whose dedication helps shape the future of education.

At Lionheart Educational Trust, volunteers are at the heart of our community. From those who support students on trips or listen to them read, to those who contribute behind the scenes, their impact is far-reaching and deeply valued.

Among our most committed volunteers are our Governors, Trustees and Members - individuals who bring a wealth of experience and insight to our schools. Their work often goes unnoticed, but their influence is felt across every classroom and corridor.

Our Trustees meet regularly throughout the year, offering strategic guidance and oversight, while our Local Governing Bodies, dedicate time to visiting schools, engaging with staff and students, and holding leadership to account. Collectively, they contribute around 600 hours of voluntary service each academic year.

One such individual is Chris Swan, Chair of Governors at Beauchamp College, who has been volunteering in education for over a decade. Her reflections capture the spirit of Volunteers’ Week:

Being a volunteer is always a win/win.

The college benefits from a team with diverse skills and perspectives, and we gain the satisfaction of knowing we’re making a real difference.

Chris continues to be inspired by the dedication of school leaders and the creativity shown in overcoming challenges:

I think schools are fascinating communities.

It's a real privilege to be able to work alongside such committed and skilled leaders, and to bring some of my own expertise to support them.

I'm constantly amazed at how much the Trust achieves across all the schools. The creative solutions to challenges and opportunities are inspirational and the commitment to providing the best for students is always driving improvements.

As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who give their time so generously. Your efforts help create vibrant, supportive learning environments where pupils can thrive.

Interested in becoming a school governor? We’d love to hear from you!
