Staff Development

We invest in our staff, offering diverse opportunities to develop skills and practice, to meet differing aspirations and career goals.

Elevate is Lionheart’s school of professional development for staff, offering a variety of methods and resources - both developed in-house and externally sourced - to suit teaching and associate staff at all levels. Our commitment to professional growth includes:

Leadership training pathway

A bespoke Lionheart pathway for colleagues at middle leadership who are keen to progress into senior leadership in education. The year-long pathway includes workshops from experts, reading educational research, shadowing, and managing a whole school change project.

LinkedIn Learning

Access to over 20,000 courses online, covering topics from equality and diversity to IT software to leadership.

National College

An online tool, focused on the education sector, with courses from first aid and health and safety through to safeguarding.

Apprenticeships

From entry level through to leadership, colleagues are encouraged to express their interest if they wish to enhance their skills through an apprenticeship qualification.

Professional qualifications

We support colleagues keen to enhance their professional experience with further knowledge that culminates in qualification, including NPQs, Master’s Degrees and those from professional bodies such as Chartered Institutes.

Training to improve practice

When keen to upskill in specific areas of practice, Lionheart support colleagues through non-qualification training courses, such as crisis communications, employment law or project management. External training is also delivered to staff across our schools in particular roles, e.g. instructional coaching and using Iris software for teachers.

Developing classroom practice

We facilitate more informal opportunities for development, including lesson study in triads, professional learning communities, coaching and sharing best practice in departmental meetings.

All-staff training days

Our all-staff inset days enable opportunity for networking, collaboration and vision setting, as well as provide training sessions where colleagues in similar roles can learn together and from each other.

Performance review programme

Our performance review programme encourages staff to be open about their aspirations so line managers can offer appropriate training and shadowing opportunities to support career progression.

Project Experience

Staff can gain valuable experience by participating in projects that provide increased responsibility and exposure at more senior or challenging levels.

Focus Groups

An opportunity for staff to actively participate in focus groups and committees, such as LGBTQ+, Disability and Eco. Involvement enables staff to gain experience in planning, decision-making, and the chance to influence policies within the Trust.

Secondments

Secondments provide an opportunity to gain experience across alternative educational settings, enhancing expertise and allowing the sharing of best practices with colleagues, enriching our educational community.

Mentoring and Coaching

Our internal mentoring and coaching programmes offer staff the chance to use their own experiences and expertise to provide guidance to others as mentors.

This collaborative approach fosters professional development and growth.
