A roaring collection of GCSE results

We are incredibly proud of the amazing Year 11 students at our East Midlands schools, who have once again shone in their GCSE exams, collecting some brilliant results this morning.

Working hard throughout the academic year, our young people have demonstrated admirable dedication both inside and outside of school, resulting in 54% of entries achieving a grade 9-5 average and 68.8% acquiring a 9-4 average.

Both of these figures exceeded the 2024 regional and national averages, which were as follows:

^National 9–5 average grades = 52.5% and 9-4 = 68.3%*

^^ Leicestershire 9–5 average grades = 48.2%, 9-4 = 64.9%*

Here’s the round up from our Leicester and Leicestershire schools:

 

LEICESTER & LEICESTERSHIRE

Beauchamp College, Oadby

An impressive 71% of Beauchamp College entries achieved a grade 9-5 average; this was nearly 20% higher than the national average.

With students undertaking a diverse mixture of subjects, the school were also pleased to report strong performances in Textiles, Business Studies, Computing, Graphics, Sociology, PE, Mathematics and Biology.

Over half the student cohort (50.3%) also completed the EBacc, with 37.3% achieving a strong pass.

 

The Castle Rock, Coalville

Having joined Lionheart Educational Trust in 2022, The Castle Rock School in Coalville have been on a journey of rapid improvement.

Their fantastic progress has been contextualised by this year’s GCSE results, which saw the percentage of students achieving a grade 9-5 in English and Mathematics increase by 29.96% when compared to last year’s data.

 

The Cedars Academy, Birstall

Over half of entries (52.7%) achieved an average grade of 9-5 and among these were a host of individual success stories.

Lukas (who acquired five 9s, four 8s and a 5) is off to Loughborough College, where he will study for A-levels in Maths, Psychology and Media Studies; he hopes to embark on a successful career in construction.

Meanwhile, after achieving one 9, two 8s and five 7s, Charlie will also be attending Loughborough College, studying Further Maths, Physics and Business Studies.

Associate Principal, James Rolfe, said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 cohort, class of 2024.

“This set of GCSE results is a testament to the hard work put in by pupils and teachers over the last five years.”

 

Judgemeadow Community College, Evington

At Judgemeadow, 54.1% of students achieved at least a grade 5 in both English and Mathematics; while 51.3% of entries achieved a 9-5 grade average across all subjects studied – this was 6.4% above the regional average.

The school also enjoyed success in specific subjects. For example, across the year group, the average Computer Science grade was 6+ and the average Physics grade was 7.

29% of the school cohort also achieved a strong pass in the EBacc.

 

Martin High School, Anstey

Across the 25 different courses offered at Martin High School, 102 learners achieved at least one grade 8 or grade 9.

Among these were Maja, Chloe, Sky, Grace and Jonah; the quintet collecting an incredible 46 grades at 7, 8 and 9 between them.

Elsewhere, Jonah collected nine GCSEs at 9-6 as well as a distinction classification in Creative iMedia; he is off to Leicester College to study for a Level 3 BTEC in Performing Arts.

Amy, meanwhile, is heading to WQE to study A-levels after achieving nine GCSEs at either grade 8 or 9 (including straight 9s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics) as well as a distinction* in Sports Studies.

 

The Newbridge School, Coalville

The Newbridge School in Coalville saw the number of students achieving a 9-5 in English and Mathematics soar, with this year’s figures showing a 63% increase when compared to last year.

 

Sir Jonathan North Girls’ College, Knighton

Students at Sir Jonathan North Girls’ College enjoy a commendable collection of results, with 66.1% of entries achieving an average grade of 9-5; this was 13.6% above the national average and nearly 18% above the regional average. A remarkable 41.4% of students also achieved a strong pass in the EBacc.

Those taking Product Design courses dazzled, with 72.2% of students achieving a grade 6 or above. Similar success was also enjoyed in English Literature, which saw just shy of 80% of students collect a grade 9 – 5.

Among the students was Isla, who collected six grade 9s, two 8s and a distinction*. With ambitions to undertake a PhD in the future, she is looking forward to also attending WQE, where she will study A-levels in History, Criminology, English and Psychology.

Principal Rose Angus said: “We're delighted with another set of phenomenal results which are a testament to the hard work of our students and staff.”

 

DERBYSHIRE

mERCIA aCADEMY, sWADLINCOTE

Derbyshire’s Mercia Academy joined Lionheart Educational Trust at the end of the 2023-24 academic year.

As they welcomed students to collect their GCSE results, Principal Jackie Cooper, said: “We are very proud of our students' achievements and congratulate all of them.

"Their last year in school has had lots of challenges and they have overcome them to achieve a great set of results.

"They leave us as successful, resilient and confident young people; we wish all of them continued success and a very happy future."

Mercia student success includes:‘L’, who has always had an interest in Engineering and creative subjects.  After achieving an M2 in Engineering and a 9 in Art, she is off to pursue A levels, including in Engineering. 

‘K’ deserved her 9s in both Geography and History and will now study these subjects at A level.

A robust revision strategy meant that ‘B’ achieved an incredible set of results, including 8 in Maths, 7s in Science and Geography, and a Level 2 Merit in Performing Arts.  His interests include astrophysics and he is off to sixth form to study further.

 

Many of our students are continuing their Lionheart educational journey at our outstanding array of Sixth Form provision. Whilst others can look forward to undertaking a wide variety of exciting apprenticeships.
