CEO KATH KELLY AWARDED MBE

We are delighted that our CEO, Kath Kelly, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honour’s List 2025 with an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to education.

Having joined Lionheart’s founding school, Beauchamp College, as Vice Principal in 2011, Kath became Principal in 2015, before being appointed CEO of Lionheart in 2016.

Working alongside a skilled, experienced and dedicated team, Kath has led the Trust through a remarkable period of growth and achievement. During her tenure, the Trust has:

  • Expanded to 17 schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
  • Developed a broad and ambitious curriculum that not only equips pupils to excel in formal examinations but also fosters a deep and wider understanding of the world.
  • Provided a wealth of holistic development opportunities, such as the Lionheart Games and Lionheart Speaks, which encourage collaboration across Trust schools.
  • Invested over £40 million in capital projects to provide inspiring learning environments.
  • Opened Alternative Provision facilities, offering a supportive space for students to reach their potential, through a more suited educational setting.
  • Supplied Chromebooks to disadvantaged families during COVID-19, ensuring all children could remain connected and continue learning.
  • Seen high academic achievement across our schools with over 100 students progressing to Oxbridge universities.

Upon receiving this prestigious accolade, Kath was quick to acknowledge the collective efforts of the entire Lionheart team.

“I am incredibly humbled to receive this recognition, although this honour reflects teamwork; Lionheart has achieved so much in the last ten years, because of the collective effort of dedicated staff and governors, enthusiastic pupils and a supportive parent and carer community.  I am fortunate to work alongside such talented and passionate individuals. This honour is a testament to our collective effort and shared vision.

“I look forward to continuing our outstanding work, supporting the next generation and ensuring that our schools remain places where every child can thrive.”
