Hop into the Year of the Rabbit.

Chinese New Year has been celebrated across Lionheart Educational Trust’s schools this week. It is an opportunity for our students to learn about the culture and customs of China, such as traditional foods, dances, and decorations.

Students at The Newbridge School in Coalville enjoyed a delicious meal of Hoisin chicken, Chow Mein, and spring rolls to mark the start of Chinese New Year. Whilst students at Beauchamp College traveled to Birmingham for the day to practice their Mandarin language skills and try the delicacies in the Wing Yip Superstore.

At Highcliffe Primary, their EYFS children have been learning about how the Chinese New Year is celebrated and enjoyed making traditional lanterns and decorating Chinese dragons. The playgrounds at Highcliffe were beautifully decorated with Chinese-inspired chalk art by the pupils in their after-school club to help celebrate the holiday.

Assemblies across the schools looked at the zodiac animals associated with the holiday, the history and legends of Chinese New Year, and traditional customs such as the giving of red envelopes filled with money.
