Lionheart students receive Gold duke of Edinburgh award

On Monday 15th May, a collection of 13 students - past and present - from Beauchamp College and Beauchamp City Sixth Form travelled to Buckingham Palace to receive their gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. The students were accompanied by their very proud College Principals, James McKenna and Alice King.

At a lavish ceremony, the students received their award from HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and had the opportunity to listen to multiple guest speakers – including ex-footballer and TV presenter, Jermaine Jenas – and take part in various events set up in the Palace Gardens.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is offered at all Lionheart secondary schools, with the Gold Award available to students who wish to participate at our Sixth Forms.

Whilst incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, it also a very demanding experience that requires a tremendous amount of application and determination.

Throughout the experience, our students worked exceptionally hard – many of them through the Covid-19 pandemic - volunteering for various organisations, including local youth clubs, libraries and charity shops. They also enjoyed expedition trips to the Peak District and the Lake District and volunteered for residential trips like NCS Leicester - one student even volunteered at a summer school in Spain!

The remarkable achievement of Lionheart sixth formers is a real testament to the students' hard-work, dedication and perseverance, as well as the support received from school staff and scheme leader, Ian Coward!
