New 3G Sports Pitch Opens at The Cedars Academy

Construction work on this facility – thanks to funding from the Premier League, the FA, and Government’s Football Foundation – began in March, with our Estates and Premises teams working to ensure the pitch was ready for the summer.

Full use is expected to commence from mid-September, when local clubs - including Birstall Juniors FC - start winter training, however, so far, the 3G pitch has been enjoyed by the likes of Peterborough United Juniors for 11 vs 11 fixtures.

Measuring 100m x 64m, the flexible design means it can be used as one full-sized pitch, two seven-a-side pitches or four five-a-side pitches, which Cedars Academy pupils can look forward to using throughout the academic year, with community use after school and at weekends. Whilst primarily designed for football, the facility can also accommodate rugby, fitness sessions, frisbee and handball sessions (providing appropriate footwear is used).

While the pitch is currently open for business and taking bookings, an ‘opening ceremony’ will take place during the Autumn.

The pitch is open from 5:30pm – 10pm on weekdays and 8:30am – 4:30pm on weekends; though, if there is sufficient demand the weekend times can be extended, with evening bookings from 4pm – 7pm a possibility.

Costs are from £32 per hour for a ¼ pitch when block booked (20% VAT added for one-off bookings).
