Outstanding A-level results at Lionheart sixth forms

Hard-working Lionheart sixth form students celebrated outstanding A-level results across the Trust schools this summer, with thanks to dedicated staff members and the support from parents/carers at home.

From students overcoming adversity to sit their exams and learners whose grades were more than they ever dreamed possible, through to the highest of grades and an abundance of Russell Group university offers; we're so proud of every student who showed such dedication and resilience over the last two years to achieve to the very best of their ability.

An outstanding 29% of all students from Beauchamp College, Beauchamp City Sixth Form and Cedars Martin Sixth Form, received an A grade average across all of their A-level and level 3 subject results!

Beauchamp City Sixth Form

The founding cohort of students from Lionheart's newest sixth form didn't disappoint on their eagerly awaited results.

Over half (53.5%) of all students receiving their A-level and level 3 results at Beauchamp City, in August 2022, gained at least one A* or A grade, with over a quarter (26%) achieving an A-grade average across all of their subjects. 27 students gained 3 or more A*s, some of whom achieved up to five A*s.

Having opened the doors to this first cohort of 342 students in 2020, Beauchamp City Sixth Form’s focus was clear from the start; to provide a high-quality academic A-level provision for students in Leicester and Leicestershire in order to help young people secure access to the most prestigious universities and higher-level apprenticeships.

Principal of Beauchamp City, James McKenna, said: “It’s been a privilege to watch our students achieve academically while also developing into ambitious young people with a world of opportunities ahead of them. Sitting formal A-level exams has given them the best chance of celebrating their knowledge and demonstrating what they are truly capable of.  We are delighted to see that the hard work and preparation has paid off.”

Some of the success stories from Beauchamp City’s students include:

  • Todd achieved huge success, earning 2 A* and an A in Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science. He is off to study Mathematics at Durham University.
  • Nimisha gained a place at Oxford University to study Physics at St Anne's College. Her hard work is evident in her 3 A* grades.
  • Jigisha secured an apprenticeship with Jaguar Land Rover as a Design Engineer. She achieved huge success in Chemistry, Physics and Maths, gaining BBC grades.
  • Emma celebrated straight A* and is going to the Plymouth University to study Dentistry.
  • Urvi secured her place to study Medicine at Sheffield University having achieved straight A* grades.
  • Corey celebrated achieving ABB in Maths, Physics and Computer Science. He has already begun an apprenticeship at Next.

The Department for Education 2019 performance tables highlights that only 8% of post-18 learners in Leicester go on to study at a Russell Group university, compared to a national average of 14%. However, a huge 47% of students at Beauchamp City were offered a place at Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, which many took up on receiving their A-level results.

The journey to open Beauchamp City Sixth Form started in 2016, when the Lionheart Educational Trust identified a need for the young people of Leicester and Leicestershire. With the Trust’s vision to ensure that every young person has an equal right to an equal education, it was therefore important to source a central location making the sixth form accessible by train or bus to all across Leicestershire. Its location near to Leicester train station has helped students from as far as Market Harborough, as well as from across the county’s suburbs and areas of Leicester city, take advantage of the post-16 provision at Beauchamp City.
