Sir Jonathan North is OUTSTANDING in all areas
We are thrilled that Sir Jonathan North Girls' College has been awarded an 'Outstanding' rating in all areas by His Majesty’s Ofsted Inspectors following their two-day inspection in January 2025. This recognition spans across all four judgement categories: Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, and Leadership and Management.Outstanding Quality of Education
Ofsted inspectors praised the exceptional learning environment, noting that "pupils thrive at Sir Jonathan North Girls’ College" and learn within "focused and ambitious classroom environments." They highlighted that the curriculum is "intelligently designed and ambitious," fostering a culture of independent learning that allows students to "broaden their horizons" and "challenge themselves." As a result, students produce work of "exceptionally high quality," leading to "excellent academic outcomes."
Outstanding Behaviour and Attitudes
Inspectors observed that pupils are "comfortable and confident in their lessons," describing the school as "a place in which [pupils] can be themselves." This supportive environment enables students to thrive academically and personally.
Outstanding Personal Development
The school's commitment to personal development was also celebrated. The Lionheart Personal Development Curriculum ensures that "pupils have plenty of opportunities to develop their talents and interests." Students can participate in a variety of activities, including Badminton and Latin Club, the school band, and new initiatives like journalism and chess clubs. Additionally, students have opportunities to "become sports leaders," "work with local primary schools," "participate in culture days," and "help to contribute to local food banks."
Outstanding Leadership and Management
The leadership team, led by Associate Principal Dr. Helen Coles-Hennessy and Executive Principal James McKenna, was commended for their dedication to continuous improvement and staff development. Inspectors noted that "staff are proud to work at the school" and benefit from a well-designed programme of training, with consideration given to their workload and well-being.
